Private, on-device meeting transcription
Most meeting notetakers are cloud services wearing a desktop app. Your audio is streamed to their servers, transcribed there, summarised there, and stored there. talat is built the other way round: everything happens on your own machine, and nothing about your meetings ever leaves it.
That’s not a setting you switch on. It’s the architecture. There’s no server to send audio to, so there’s nothing to opt out of and nothing to trust.
What 'on your machine' actually means.
talat captures audio locally from your microphone and from the system audio your own speakers are playing. The transcription runs on your computer, on the CPU and, on a Mac, the Neural Engine. The summary is written by a language model running on your machine, or against a cloud provider you chose with a key you own. The recordings, transcripts, and notes live in a local library on your disk.
At no point does any of it touch a talat server, because there isn’t one. That’s the whole difference.
Nothing joins, nothing signs in.
There’s no notetaker bot to add to a call, so nobody else in the room sees a third party has joined, and you’re not limited to the two or three platforms a bot supports. talat records any meeting your computer can play: a video call on any platform, a webinar, a phone call on speaker.
There’s no account to create either. You download talat and start recording; nothing is registered against an email address in someone’s database.
Works with the Wi-Fi off.
Because the models run locally, talat keeps working with no internet at all. Record on a plane, in a basement meeting room, on a locked-down network that blocks cloud services, or anywhere you simply don’t want a connection open. The transcript and summary are produced right there on the machine.
