Compare talat and Fireflies.ai
Fireflies.ai is a popular cloud-based meeting transcription tool, aimed particularly at sales and enterprise teams. It works by sending a bot (the “Fireflies Notetaker”) into your calls and handling everything server-side: transcription, summarisation, storage, search. If you live inside Salesforce or HubSpot and you need meeting notes flowing automatically into a pipeline, Fireflies is well set up for it; their CRM integrations are a real strength.
talat is the opposite end of the spectrum. There’s no bot, no servers, no cloud; audio is captured on your machine, transcribed on your machine, and stored on your machine. Everything happens locally.

Fireflies' privacy stance.
For a cloud-based tool, Fireflies has done more than most on privacy and compliance. They hold SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, and HIPAA compliance (with a BAA available), and publicly commit to not using customer meeting content to train their AI models. If you’re comparing cloud meeting tools, that’s a meaningful stance and you should take it seriously.
What Fireflies can’t change, though, is the shape of the approach. A bot joins your call as a visible participant, your audio goes to Fireflies’ servers to be processed, and everything downstream (transcripts, summaries, search, storage) lives in their cloud. talat doesn’t try to build a better version of that; it just doesn’t do it at all. Your audio never leaves the machine it was recorded on, because there’s nowhere else for it to go.
The things not on the pricing page.
Fireflies’ free tier is limited: 800 minutes of storage, individual meetings capped at two hours, and AI features reserved for paid plans. Pro, the entry-level paid tier, is $18/month.
AI features (summaries, action items, smart search) are metered by monthly credits on every paid tier: 20 on Pro, 30 on Business, 50 on Enterprise. Run out mid-month and you’re waiting until the next cycle for anything that touches the AI layer.
Recording duration caps also vary by tier. Free and Pro cap individual meetings at two hours; Business lifts it to three, Enterprise to four. That’s fine for most calls, but it’s a wall if you run long workshops, all-hands, or training sessions and forget to check the small print first.
talat has no per-meeting limit and no credit caps. Summaries run on your device via a local LLM (Qwen3-4B-4bit by default, configurable), or against a cloud provider you chose with a key you own. Either way there’s no meter ticking and no top-up to worry about.
Where Fireflies is the better tool.
For sales teams running a proper CRM pipeline, Fireflies is built for the job. Automatic push into Salesforce and HubSpot, shared meeting libraries across the organisation, real-time collaboration, cross-device sync, integrations with Zoom, Meet, Teams, Webex, and Slack huddles. All of it useful, and all of it exists because the cloud is doing the work.
talat has none of those things. It’s a native desktop app (macOS and Windows), it’s single-user, it doesn’t sync, and it doesn’t push into a CRM. Deliberate tradeoffs, but tradeoffs all the same.
Which one's right for you?
Choose Fireflies if...
- -Your team lives and breathes its CRM pipeline (Salesforce, HubSpot, Zapier)
- -Shared meeting libraries and real-time collaboration are central to how your team works
- -You want a web-based tool that plugs into every major conferencing platform
- -Cloud processing and a visible bot in the room aren’t concerns for you
Choose talat if...
- -You’d prefer no bot joining your calls
- -You run long sessions that’d bump into per-meeting caps
- -You don’t want an AI credit budget hanging over every summary
- -You want the whole stack running on your own hardware with nothing leaving it
- -You want to own the software outright rather than rent it
